( Special School School for the differently Able Children)

Santhome Special School Edamukku Kodungalloor

 Social Action Forum, a facilitator in rehabilitating mentally challenged children for the last 3 decades and considering the demand  from the parents of these mentally challenged children from the Kodungallur area and the urgent needs of the community SAFI started its second special School named  Santhome Special School Edamukku , Kodungalloor, a  special school for the integral development and care of differently abled children residing in and around Kodungallur Municipality and adjacent Grama Panchayaths, on 21st April 2104, in a land of 0.95 acres with survey No. 1132/1 & 2, 1144/1 owned by Bishop, Diocese of Irinjalakuda and entrusted to the care of Social Action Forum Irinjalakuda.

The foundation stone of the existing new building was laid on 27th March 2015.  The  school building has been built up with all amenities required for the special education of children with mental disabilities and the Santhome Special School is now functioning with 64 CWDs & 11 well qualified and  experienced staff.  The special school will run by the congregation of the sisters of St. John of St Mark, Indore Providence.  Santhome special school has been registered with State Government (Reg. No 1009/2015). The special school has also received grant in aid from the State Government of Kerala in 2017. 


The following arrangements/facilities are available for students of Santhome Special School for Mentally Challenged children:-

i))Medical   :   One Doctor from Public Health Centre Edamukku visits Santhome special school periodically to cater the clinical aspects of the inmates.  The doctor, after medical examination of the children, renders all necessary medical aids to these children through the Health Centre.  Periodically counseling for parents of the children with disabilities is arranged in addition to conducting class on awareness. 

ii) Physiotherapy Unit:   The special school is having a physiotherapy unit and it is being made available to children with disabilities on need basis.  A Part time teacher is available to provide physiotherapy.

iii)  Entertainment:   One colour TV, one VCR and One Stereo Music System are available in the school and entertainment programme to the children prior to commencement of classes and during interval time.  Documentaries, pictures and programs as per the choice of the children, are shown to them.  During the intervals, the Stereo Music System is put on with attractive and interesting songs.  Playing materials like Football, Rings, Carom Board, and Chess etc are made available and being ensured full utilization of the playing materials.

  • Participation and winning in the Arts &Sports Competion  at District and State level .
